7 Tips for Interviewing for a Crypto Job
1. Research the Company
First and foremost, when you are invited for an interview, you should take several minutes to research the company you are interviewing with. We know how saturated the application process is, and we know you aren’t researching before you apply—and that’s fine, but before you show up for an interview, you’ll want to know the answer to the following questions:
· What product does the company sell?
· What is the company culture like?
· Where is the job, is it remote?
· What products would my skills be best suited for?
· What is the company motto?
Take notes as you research, then proceed to the next step.
2. Adjust Your Resume
Now that you know this job is seriously considering you take a moment to adjust your general resume to be specific for the job. Chances are it’s been a few months since you applied anyway, and it’s a good idea to refresh. While the person interviewing you might have your resume on hand, it’s a good idea to bring a copy or email one before you arrive at the interview so everyone is up to date.

3. Focus on Your Soft Skills
As you are adjusting your resume and preparing for your interview, make a list of soft skills you possess that could apply to a product they are selling. Because cryptocurrency is a new industry, and new products are popping up all the time, chances are you won’t have the exact experience they are looking for. So, instead, focus on the skills you do have and how they could be applied to the job you are interviewing for.
4. Prepare to Take a Test
We’ve all heard the story of someone applying for (and getting) a job they aren’t quite qualified for. Many cryptocurrency companies, especially the larger ones, won’t take any risks.
If you apply to be some sort of coder, prepare to take a test on coding. If you apply to be a writer, prepare for an English or grammar test. Even if you are just applying for customer service, be prepared to be tested in any languages you say that you speak.
Because a test is likely, you may have received it before being invited for the interview. If you haven’t gotten a test yet, be prepared for one after your interview. Also, if you lied on your resume, now is the time to fess up or back out!
5. Prepare Answers to Common Interview Questions
Although a job in crypto will be different than the industries you worked in before, they may still use common interview questions, so ensure you have rehearsed the answers in advance. Below are some they may ask:
· What are your weaknesses?
· What are your strengths?
· Tell me about yourself?
· Why do you want this job?
· Why should we hire you?
· What are your salary expectations?
· What are your career goals?
· Do you have any questions?
Ensure you have an answer to each of these, as well as at least one question to ask at the end—this shows you are truly interested in the job.
6. Salary Expectations
Before any interview, you should have salary expectations in mind, and the same goes for crypto jobs. However, there is one thing you need to consider.
Many cryptocurrency firms are start-ups, and as such, they may offer non-traditional forms of compensation, such as stock options or the availability to work from anywhere in the world for a lower salary. While you don’t have to accept these types of compensation, if you are open to it, make sure you think about in advance what amount of them you would be willing to accept along with a cash value as your salary.
7. Be Ready to Listen
The last thing you need to prepare for in an interview for a crypto job is to be ready to listen. Chances are, even if you research the company fully, they may be hiring you for a product or job that you have never done before. So, bring a notepad and be prepared to learn about the job or product they are interviewing for.
Of course, after this step, you may find that the job isn’t a good fit for your skills. Don’t forget that you can ask them to keep your resume on hand in case another job that does fit your skills comes up!
Overall, it’s never easy to prepare for an interview for a job in a new industry, and crypto is no exception. We hope that these tips helped you and that you’ll be prepared for your next interview!
